Nanzhao Branch, Nanzhao County of Henan Province

Nanzhao County is located in the mountainous area(Niu Fu Mountain) of Henan Province. The population of the county is 610,000. Tens of thousands of people living in the remote mountainous areas continue to live under poverty line.

FPC set up its 2nd branch in Nanzhao County in October 1995. The first micro-loan was distributed on November 1995. Nanzhao Branch now has four sub-branch: Chengguan Branch, Xiaodian Branch, Yunyang Branch and Shimen Branch. By June 2007, this branch has 140 centers and 6283 active members, all of whom are women. The repayment rate of this branch has been above 99%. Nanzhao Branch is one of the most successful MFIs in China.

However, in the past five years, there has been no new funding in the Nanzhao Branch, the active members have been kept between 6,000 and 8,000 households.  This branch is hoping to receive more funding in order to serve the poor on a larger scale.
